(Original character by me from a world by Pyth.)
Aelesthi didn't think it through much before she cooked up a batch of willstuff and turned herself into one of the Iinthkaaraen (try saying it three times fast) -- the not-quite-indivisible, diamondlike protectors. It is having a ward that holds their faulty design together, and so an Iinthkaaraen who fails in her duty ceases to exist; to the extent that she actually put any deep consideration into the transformation, Aelesthi decided to be the protector of an old coin on a string around her neck, which seemed the easiest thing she had handy at the time. The colours that ripple and flash through her diamond not-flesh are therefore a little silverish-bronze for the coin, a little grey for the string and a lot of rather sarcastic murky brown for being a right sneaky bastard.
Iinthkaaraen are not Indivisibles, as the formula for making those has been lost for generations, but they do share some of the same characteristics: don't eat, don't sleep, pretty damn tough. It's that strength and resilience that tempted Aelesthi to become one in the first place. Unlike Indivisibles, they can be affected by undersong -- and, by extension, magic in general.
Ael comes from Industrial Revolution-era Aldar, where pneumatic is the new black.
